Playing School...

Okay, you know how after you have a baby, especially your first, there are moments when time seems to stand still and you feel like your precious bundle of joy is going to stay a baby forever? Well, I just woke up from that dream!! I have been noticing the past couple of weeks that Zayde is starting to grow up, but it just hit me like a ton of bricks today! The past several days he has really started acting like a big boy and doing the things that my older boys do. I don't know why, but today it just hit me... My baby is becoming a toddler. (sniff, sniff) Then, tomorrow he's going to be a little boy, then the next day a teenager, then the next day a young man, then the next day a man!! Mom's, how do you deal with this?! I know that he's going to grow up and I am loving this stage (I say that at every stage,) he is sooooo much fun, and I know that it is just going to get even more fun. But, at the same time, I want him to stay my little baby. Sigh, I guess I have more praying to do. :)

Everyday we have our calendar time and practice our word wall. Zayde usually watches and plays along for a minute, but today he was really into it. My students take turns being the "teacher-of-the-day", which means they get to hold the pointer and lead the others in the songs, counting, word wall, etc. I have a pointer bucket, which consists of dow rods, jumbo pencils, fly swatters (un-used), for the students to use as pointers. Zayde appoints himself as the teacher's helper and picks himself out a pointer to play along, too. Today, he participated in everything! I was pretty impressed with his attentiveness...

...Zayde right in the middle of the action. He was actually jabbering like he was singing along with the boys.

I love this picture, because he's trying so hard to be a big boy while holding his sippy cup!

At this point, he got his own pointer and was just talking and pointing away like he was leading the group in their calendar time.

...helping Solomon with the word wall. You should hear Zayde jabber! The inflection and tone of his voice actually sounds bossy, like he's really telling them all about it and leading them in the word wall.

What a cutie!!

The boys watch a little 30 minute video (Dora, Blues Clues, Sesame Street)while I cook lunch. Zayde is usually taking a nap at this time, but he was still awake yesterday. When I peeked my head in to check on them, Zayde had crawled up on the couch with the big boys and was watching TV with them! Zayde never watches TV, so I didn't realize how interested he would be in it. (It lasted all of 5-7 minutes:)

...playing outside, right along with the big boys.

And then he gets fussy (like now) and needs his nap, so I'm reminded that he is still my little baby boy!

It is so amazing to me how much Tayson is getting to be a big boy right now too!! It is really hard for this mommy, but so much fun at the same time!

Zayde is so cute and I love how he is so interested in being one of the big boys!!

It's almost like Zayde has siblings! Being around those older boys everyday has really helped him pick stuff up, obviously! I love that Jordan is getting so big! I am not a huge fan of the "baby" stage (gasp!), I know you are, but it's this stage that I am really loving....just enough independence, mixed with still needing mommy!

He is so cute. Do you love being able to stay home with him? How many kids do you have? Are you taking more? Sorry for all the questions.

That is great, Amy!! He is going to be one smart kiddo, no preschool needed for him when he is 3 or 4. :) It is hard to watch your baby grow up, though. I know, just pray that is my only solution to it. :)

That is so cute that he thinks he's so big! I'm sure it is very good for him to be around all the older boys, and you can tell he really enjoys it!

It looks like Zayde is really learning alot of school stuff that will help him in the early years, he will be futher along than most kids his age. He is soaking up all this information & he thinks he is playing school, ha!!! He doesn't look like a baby any longer he is a toddler, what fun......K.Barnes

Yep, Amy, it is hard to see them growing up but fun, too! Isn't it weird how it really just changes in a few days? Baby one day big kid the next. You are going to enjoy all the stages to come so don't worry!

It happens faster and faster each year. Sometimes I just want to slam on the brakes of time and say, "Okay, enough is enough!"My "baby" will be 9 next month :0/
